ZANZIBAR BOUTIQUE ESCAPE

On the east coast of Zanzibar, I led the complete transformation of a small beach lodge into a charming boutique hotel. The project involved rebuilding the entire operational core—from the kitchen and office to storerooms and reception— while giving the public spaces a fresh identity that reflects the island’s diverse cultural heritage with a modern, minimalist twist.

My vision was to blur the lines between indoors and outdoors, allowing the lush tropical gardens to flow naturally into the restaurant and communal areas. The goal: to create a space where guests feel connected to nature and at ease from the moment they arrive.

Wherever possible, I used local materials—not only to stay true to the spirit of the place, but also to support the local community, celebrate regional craftsmanship, and maintain a cost-conscious, sustainable approach.
